There are many ways to style The Doll Planet nylon doll hair.

Before you start, we HIGHLY recommend reading and watching tutorials. The most common mistakes we hear are breaking needles and running out of hair because they have rooted too thick, both which can be prevented by taking the advice from tutorials and taking your time. Like any skill, we get better with PRACTICE. Be patient, have fun and you will be a natural in no time!
The basic method for getting a nice perm is to immerse in microwave heated (heat in microwave safe dish for 4 mins) hot water for 8-12 min OR boiling water for 4-5 mins then to run cold tap water until the hair is cold, then let air dry overnight before removing curlers. A variety of different items can be used as curlers. Small perm rollers or even snipped straws wrapped with tin foil are great uses to create the correct scale curls.
For Straightening irons use 300-350 degrees or 20-25 depending on your setting and size of doll head. It is always wise to start on a lower setting and go hotter if you want the hair to be straighter. You can get a variety of results with straightening irons. Shape, flatten, create kinks and curves and so much more! If the hair is ratted and tangled, just use this tool plus a fine tooth metal comb and you can make the hair look new again. You can add a little styling gel, or some customizers use watered down Galaxy Glue to hold styles in place.
You can also use a curling iron at 300-350 or 20-25 for 2-3 minutes per curl. Again, always better to start on a lower setting when experimenting to achieve the desired look. Works best when hair is wet. This method is really easy but we recommend a small barrel iron. It does take a little getting used to; when you pull the barrel out, remember that heat also straightens. So be careful how how you release the barrel as to not straighten out the curls.
If you have issues with static you can gently wrap a dryer fabric softener sheet and swipe to remove static.
Sealing Rerooted Hair Inside the Head
Galaxy Glue is ideal for sealing the rerooted hair from inside the neck, but sometimes you need a stronger glue like Liquid Fusion or Fabri-Tac.
We have been customizers for over 20 years, and have lots of tips and tricks that we are happy to share with you. If you have any questions or concerns at all, we invite you to contact us so that we can do our very best to help you with your projects to make this a fun and exciting experience.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR HAND-DYED OMBRE DOLL HAIR
Though every effort on our part is taken to make certain dye colors will not run or transfer, this cannot be 100% guaranteed. These instructions will insure that you prevent any dye transfer to your doll or pony. If you don’t take these steps seriously and you find that dye has rubbed off onto your doll or pony, we do have remedies to remove the dye so that your doll or pony is good as new again!
After dying The Doll Planet Nylon, we use a 2-step rinse & seal process and then check for color steadfastness while wet. After the hair is dry we then comb and weigh each hank before packaging which gives us an additional step to test color steadfastness while dry.
Because dye transfer does sometimes happen, we recommend that you do not use water to separate plugs AND we highly recommend that you cover ALL surface areas that will be handled during the rerooting process. Be mindful that hand lotions, oily/sweaty hands and rerooting with water can cause dye transfer.
The BEST solution to prevent getting dye on your doll or pony’s face is in the preparation. Wrap all skin areas of the head with saran wrap before rerooting. The dye tends to transfer from your hands to the plastic/skin areas while inserting plugs.
We have never seen dye absorb into the plastic from boil wash/perm styling methods. It tends to only be a direct cause of fingers pressing the dye into the plastic while handling during the rerooting process. So don’t be too concerned when styling.
In the situation that dye does transfer onto a surface of your doll or pony, there are remedies that WILL remove the dye. If you catch it fast you can use Acetone with a qtip to remove the dye. If the dye has been in position overnight you may need to use acne cream and sun treatments to get your doll back good as new again! Be aware that for My Little Pony, acne treatments can cause skin fading with time.
If you need help with a remedy please contact us and we will help you with a remedy. We have NEVER had a doll or pony that we could not fix. So please give us the opportunity to help you.
GLOW IN THE DARK HAIR CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Glow in the dark hair is worth every extra effort because of how radiantly it glows!
- The Doll Planet’s Glow in the Dark hair is NOT nylon. It is a low temp synthetic polyester fiber and needs to be treated differently. This hair has a very different texture; this is common for glow in the dark hair. It is easy to style, but needs to be handled carefully as it has a tendency to fray.
- This hair works best damp, or even wet by submerging it in water before re-rooting. It will divide into plugs easier and prevent fraying. This is recommended to make re-rooting easier and prevent damaging the hair.
- Over-brushing the hair can cause the hair to fray. Use a metal tooth comb and comb LIGHTLY.
- Like our Premium Nylon, divide the hair into thin plugs to avoid needle breakage and tangling. This hair is LOW TEMPERATURE hair, meaning the hair can handle up to approximately 200 degrees f. Human heat styling tools are NOT recommended for this hair. The best way to style this hair is by boil perming.
- The fun part about glow in the dark hair is “charging” it! The hair needs to absorb light to glow in the dark. The more light it absorbs, the brighter it glows. While being in normal lighting will cause the hair to absorb some light, sitting it directly under a desk lamp for about an hour will really make it glow bright. A blow dryer or bright flashlight can work too! The luminescence will be seen best in a dark room. Repeat process to recharge. The hair may lose luminescence over time,
